How to Flatten a PDF Form Before Sending It

Flattening a PDF turns interactive form values and supported annotations into fixed page content. Recipients can see the completed document without editing the original fields.

Steps

  1. Complete and save the form

    Keep the editable source copy before making a flattened version.

  2. Open Flatten PDF

  4. Review the downloaded copy

    Check every important value before sharing the file.

Flatten only after checking the form

Save a normal editable copy before flattening. Once fields become page content, you cannot use the same fields to make corrections.

Open the flattened copy in a PDF reader and inspect text fields, checkboxes, and annotations before sending it.

Flattening is not encryption

Flattening makes fields harder to edit as form controls, but it does not protect confidential content. Use Password Protect PDF when access control matters.

Do not describe a flattened file as a legally certified or tamper-proof record.
